Lessons Learnt for MDRT 2015 Meeting

It has been a great 3 days of impactful powerful seminars with the Main Platform and Focus Sessions. If there are takeaways, it’s more of a bigger message in work and life. Happiness, Care and Branding.

Happiness. The feeling of being happy could be actually contagious. When we are positive and happy, it is natural that people around us get influenced too. Do you achieve more when you are happy or sad? Do you do business with people who are happy or sad? That’s a no-brainer right? But yet, we probably see a lot of people talking about Monday Blues, sick and tired of going office, tons of work to do etc. If you are passionate about what you do, that shouldn’t be how you feel. Play, don’t work, I learnt from a highly successful lawyer recently. As one of the speaker will term it, this is our “inner” aspect, the “I“, our emotions, thoughts and purpose.

Care. The most successful and productive MDRT members here conveyed the same message. It’s not about you, it’s all about them. Clients don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care. Of course we need to be proficient at what we do, but if you are just doing that, you are just doing your job. It’s the small things that you do for your clients that makes them remember you, and not just the things that is expected from your job. I have lots of room for improvement on that, have to keep working on this aspect. This is the “WE” part, the “others” aspect of business, how are we connected to our clients.

Branding. Branding is probably what sets you apart from other people from your same trade. Why would someone wants to do business with you and not someone else? What is your Unique Selling/Value Proposition that you give to you clients? And you will see how everything is so interlinked and connect, because someone wants to work with you if you feel/look happy, care for them and adds value to their life. This could be the “IT” aspect, where you set observable and measurable process/standards.

Insurance? Financial Services? No, I think these principles apply to all trades and business. And more often than not, when are are immersed in our business, we forget to work ON our business. As we get immersed in our life, we often forget to work ON our life.
